Sydney is situated on the relatively narrow coastal strip bounded by the Pacific Ocean and the Great Dividing Range. The GDR is a weathered, low mountain range that runs for approx 2000 miles North-South along most of the Australian East Coast.
That part of the GDR near Sydney is called The Blue Mountains as in the pic. The Eucalyptus forests emit eucalyptus oil which merges with the atmosphere resulting in a blue haze. Much of my flying is over this area. Morning or late afternoon sun on the cliff faces make them a vivid red colour.
