Dimona Landing at Emkaytee
Emkaytee is a small landing strip about an hour south of Darwin in the Northern Territory in Australia's tropical north or Top End as its known.
The area is littered with overgrown WW2 airstrips, often built by US military forces. Darwin was the only Australian city bombed by the Japanese using over 240 planes in multiple attacks over one day.
Huge tracts of the Top End are also littered with termite mounds which must be regularly graded from airstrips. They number dozens to the acre and often stand 6' high. This makes emergency landings a little more challenging.
