Today between flights I noticed that the elevator linkage was rubbing/binding slightly for some reason.
I checked a few things and then pushed the 109 back to its tiedown and the binding magically disappeared.
Apparently when the breakaway castoring tailwheel is in a specific position it causes some rubbing interference on the elevator linkage.
Has anyone else had this happen?
Obviously I will need to look into this further and see what is going on
as at the very least it may be causing some wear on an elevator pushrod.

Yes.
My pushrod had noticeable scoring and I had it repaired. Also check to see that the plate at the base of the tail boom (internal) is not cracked. It can be inspected by removing the rudder. Check the Byron Gliding web site for details.
I only move the elevator on the ground when the tail wheel is straight. Any other position causes the rubbing. I don't know whether this situation applies to the 109 B.

It there a permanent fix or is this something 109 users just have to live with?

I've learned to live with it. There was an advisory (not an AD) issued to remove the rudder and do an inspection every 25 hours.

I'm glad I discovered it now and know what it is.
I'll have to remove the rudder and see how things look back there.
Thanks for the info.

Was this a 109A or B model?

Technically, there is no such thing as an "A." There is, however, a "B."
Both Ray I & were referring to the "A."
