Abstract: The G109 canopy has numerous issues. My canopy leaks water onto the instruments, the acrylic cracks from the stress near the hinge, the heavy canopy can slam down like a guillotine and break your arm unless held at all times, etc.. Can the G109B canopy be fitted to the G109?

Can the G109B canopy be fitted to the G109? Anything is possible with enough time and money, but in practical terms no, it can't.
Yes, the G109 canopy system had quite a few drawbacks. That's why Grob got away from that design. Water leaks- That's what canopy covers are for, but then you have to be worried about plex and gelcoat crazing. Cracks near the hinge- Has always been a problem. One needs to be very careful. Canopy slamming down- Make sure the gas cylinders behind the instrument panel are still in good shape. While these won't hold the canopy in the intermediate position, they do make the operation a lot easier and also hold the thing in the upright position much better. Some owners don't even know these are there.
