Leobardo,
Does it have an extension on the tailwheel fork? The original tire that Grob used became
impossible to get. Grob then made a fork extension modification. It is two pieces of flat
metal that bolt to the original fork and extend it, allowing a larger diameter tailwheel to be
used. This new tire is a 2.80/2.50/4. Since this tire will not fit on your aircraft, my guess is
that you don't have this modification installed. Check with Tim Dews at Aircraft
Composites. With a little luck, he will have a set. Also, the 2.80/2.50/4 tire is available in
6 ply and 4 ply. Don't try and use the 6 ply. The hub for the tailwheel is a split hub. You
have to pack the tube in the tire before the hub is put back together. Be VERY, VERY
careful when putting the hub back together not to pinch the tube. If you accidently do, it
will cut the tube as you tighten the bolts. I would have a second tube on hand in case.
Also, the 6 ply does not have enough room inside it to allow proper closure of the hub
with the tube inside. Also the tip on Desser Tire is a good one. They have the stuff, and
are reliable to work with. Glad you finally got your bird!!
Your Bud,
Capt. Ron
PS. I have a couple of 6 plys for sale. Cheap!

Hi Ron, how are you?
I sent you a couple of emails when I picked up the G109 but no
answer, I thought you changed your email.
if you still have my address please send me an email, I was in
florida just a couple of days ago and though of visiting you, but no
luck on the emails.
About the tire, now I know why I can´t find it.
I guess I will have to make that fork modification.

Hi,
Just to complete what Cpt Ron wrote. Grob has issued the TM817-48
where they describe the details of the recommended change. I do have
it in German but I guess you can found it in english on Grob's web site.
I did the change in 2005 (the H/W costed 64€, 2 metal plates and 4
bolts..) It worked perfectly with one comment: the angled valve cap of
my tube comes in touch to a fork bolt head when the wheel turns. I
replaced the valve cap by a tape to fit
