Hi all,
My name is Henk Dumont, I'm Dutch, but the Taifun I own for 8 years now (D-KFDI), is stationned at Geilenkirchen NATO airbase (ETNG) in Germany, near the Dutch-German border. Now that I'm retired I've got plenty of time to enjoy my airplane. In the last 8 years I've flown well over 1100 hours with my Taifun 17E II, all over Europe. You can read more about my recent flights on my homepage www.powerglidertaifun.de which I've also added to the "Links" section of this Yahoo-group.
Most of the articles on my site have been translated from German language into English, because I think it would be nice if as much Taifun owners around the world as possible are able to read about the plane that has our mutual interest. If you take a look at the page, which is visited by Americans very frequently, I would appreciate if you leave your thoughts in my
guestbook.
It would be very nice to get to know some of you people on the other side of the ocean. Since first contacting Joe Volmar (some 3 years ago) I got interested in flying a Taifun in the U.S.A. So, in the future I hope to be able to establish some contacts to fly a Taifun in America, and if someone over there is willing to fly to Europe in a Taifun, just contact my via PM and I'm sure we will be able to arrange some things.
Taking into account my 1100 hours of flight on this machine, several in very difficult circumstances, I think the Valentin Taifun 17E and EII are the best motorgliders that have ever been built to this very day.
4 years ago I first organized a European Meeting of Taifuns. This meeting was a great success for two years, but unfortunately this and last year the weather was not on our side and we had to call off the meeting.
However both years I enjoyed meeting other motorgliderpilots (e.g. Fournier and Grob) at several CFI-meetings in Germany and France.
