To anyone in the group who may be able to help me,
Need your help again,
I can not find a break master cylinder for my experimental Taifun I. The present unit is not working well and was made by BMW however there is no part # or identify # on the unit. I went to a BMW parts place, they could not reconize the unit and sugested the unit may have come from a BMW motorcycle, I'm investigating this.If any of you can help me identify and obtain a new unit or a rebuild kit for the present unit please advise me at your earliest convienance.

It may indeed be a BMW bike part--in which case a BMW bike mechanic (not a car one) could help you out. I ride a Beemer myself and when I get home Friday (I'm out of town at the moment) I'll check my BMW Riders of America club magazine--there are plenty of parts places that specialize in them.
An alternative might be an aircraft cylinder from someplace like Matco Manufacturing--they make really nice stuff and I'm in the process of adapting my Diamant 18 sailplane to use their 4.00 x 4" wheel and brake. Note that their stuff is designed to use Mil-5606 red hydraulic fluid, not the DOT-4 stuff that cars and bikes use, and some rubber parts (seals, etc.) may be incompatible.
Probably the ultimate fix, and one that I plan to put on my own Taifun someday, would be the 5.00 x 5" Matco wheels as well as their brake cylinder--might even go to toe brakes! These are the same wheels and brakes that Burt Rutan used for SpaceShipOne. The whole catalog is at www.matcomfg.com.

Yes the brake master cylinder is the Magura 16mm bore same as fitted to some BMW bikes including R1100 and K1200RS. Usually a hone and new cups will be required, a full kit is #3423950R.
The wheels and brakes are Cleveland now called Parker Hannifin as used by Cessna and others. BUT you must use DOT-4 fluid unless you make total system change.
