  • Slick 4230 lubrication -what lubricant?

    Ethan Graham
Abstract:   The best oil for the magneto coupling is chain saw bar oil and some people use motor bike chain oil. Your Unison advise is correct, that is no lube for the slick just the flexible coupling. If you find oil leakage from the bottom vent get the magneto serviced.

The recomended oil filter for the L2400 is a MANN W77 which may not be available in your part of the world. Be aware of different relief valve pressures if using a substitute.

    Hi Cornelia

The pitch changing mechanism has two roller bearings and a retaining nut that push against the thrust plate to change the pitch.  One of these bearing on my  Taifun is missing/disintegrated.  Is this part of the aircraft frame or Hoffman item, right now the thrust plate  is being pushed with and eccentric load and explains why changing takes several attempts.  Anyone else with comments.

    Fred

Anything special about the bearings that would prohibit me from getting a high quality one from a bearing supplier here in the USA?

    Dear Fred,
The propeller pitch changing mechanism is an airframe part (see attached picture).
Don’t fly with only one bearing, your propeller may be damaged.

No, nothing special, if you can find the same dimensions you can use them.
